Heart Disease and American Men.

I’m sure you’ve heard it all before—the leading concern in men’s health is heart disease. You’ve read the articles, you’ve cut back on red meat, you’ve talked to your doctor about it… once or twice.

But are you taking it seriously?

Heart disease has been dubbed “Man’s worst enemy” and it is the leading cause of death in the world, but it is a staggeringly high statistic in the cause of death for American men.

If you are a man, you are at risk of fatal heart disease. Now that you know the truth, what are you going to do about it?

First things first, talk to your doctor. Have you had your cholesterol checked recently? How about your blood pressure? Monitoring these two key indicators could save your life. It’s important to catch problems early enough that something can be done to help you. It cannot be stated enough how necessary preventive care is. Your doctor is available to walk you through the best solutions for high cholesterol and high blood pressure. And if you don’t happen to suffer from either, it’s still a great idea to keep an eye on them. If a problem arises, your doctor is there to step in immediately and get you the help you need.

Next, cut out negative influences in your life. We’re not talking about your college buddies in this case, but the substances you put into your body actively working to harm your heart and steal your good health. If you smoke, it’s time to stop. As in today. Smoking is one of the worst things you can do to your quality of life. Most of the time we assume it will cause cancer, and it will, but heart disease is one of the leading deadly diagnoses as a result of smoking. Do the hard work now and quit, so that you can have a long, healthy life. Unhealthy eating habits and excessive alcohol use are other bad influences that will damage your heart and decrease your wellness.

Finally, make sure you’re getting exercise. Even thirty minutes a day of strenuous physical activity can have positive, lasting effects on your heart and overall health. Muscles are best developed with training and consistency—your heart is no different. Build up its strength and stamina by getting up and using it. And then enjoy its strength and vitality for years to come.

These tips might not be anything new to you, but don’t gloss over them. If you are a man, you are at risk of heart disease. It’s time to take your heart and your health seriously.
