Tips to alleviate seasonal allergy symptoms.

Allergy Season is once again upon us. And with pollen counts hitting record highs lately, we’re positive you’re already feeling allergy symptoms.

If you suffer from seasonal allergy symptoms, here are a few, non-medicated tips and tricks you can do to save yourself some from a sore throat and sniffles.

  1. Stay informed. Local TV and radio stations keep up-to-date accounts of pollen counts. Check them out before you spend time outdoors or open those windows to let that cool spring breeze in.
  2. Close your windows overnight. We’re all enjoying these warmer temps, but breathing in highly pollinized air all night can seriously skyrocket your symptoms. Close the windows and save yourself some misery.
  3. Avoid the outdoors when it’s windy and keep your car windows closed when you’re driving. The quickest way to avoid an allergy attack is to stay away from wind that’s kicking up all those irritants and depositing them right inside your sinuses.
  4. Invest in a great humidifier. Avoid indoor dry air by plugging in a humidifier. If your suffering follows you to the office, look for a small, desk-friendly humidifier for work.
  5. Wash your clothes often. Pollen and other allergens love to hitch a ride and stick to your clothes, especially if you’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors. Make sure you strip when you walk in the door and get those contaminated articles of clothing straight into the washer. You’ll save yourself a headache—literally!
  6. Nasal Rinses! This might not be the most comfortable treatment ever, but it certainly is effective. A good, saline nasal rinse will wash out your sinuses of mucus and allergens, giving you great relief from nasty nasal congestion.
  7. Change your furnace filter. Buildup of irritants on your furnace filter can recirculate what’s bothering you through your house all day long. Grab a new one at the store on your next visit and do yourself and your furnace a favor.
